Wedding Diaries — Where Your Dream Wedding Gets Real!

Intimate and grand as Indian weddings are, marriage is an event that deserves to be celebrated, cherished and elaborately planned.

From the bride’s mehndi and sindoor to the exquisite jewellery, finest fabrics and the rest of the trousseau — each element needs to be perfect. Not to forget the groom and his entourage. Right, why should only the bride have all the fun? From designer topors and sehras to ornamental brooch and elegant pocket squares, the chic watch and a resplendent ring to jootis and cufflinks, sherwanis and dhotis — the groom’s trunk can be a collector’s delight too!

Then there are important choices to be made when it comes to venue and décor, food and music, flowers and photographs… ahh, yes… the timeless pictures preserving your most priceless wedding memories.

It’s all in the details. Shopping and planning start way before the actual event. And of course, it’s a family affair! Not just the parents but uncles and aunts, cousins and siblings all get together with gusto for making the wedding the talk of the town. The best of the industry names are looked up, searched for, recommended and visited to make sure it’s a party worth remembering. For that extra bit, to make heads turn and get something beyond the common deal, no stones are left unturned to find a few hidden gems of creativity for ensuring the best wedding ever.

Now, all these are easier said than done. In fact, shopping for the bridal trousseau itself is an elaborate exercise. First the research, next the shop-hopping, then trials and more trials and then some more before finally settling on the right choice.

So, when the team behind The India Story — Kolkata’s and eastern India’s biggest and most coveted art-fashion-lifestyle-music-and-food experience — decided to come up with Wedding Diaries, an equally engaging and thoughtfully curated wedding expo last year, the response was overwhelming.

Even if you are not planning any wedding, a walk-through of Wedding Diaries would be a mind-blowing experience and hence a must — that was mostly the reaction by those who had dropped by. And those who did dream of being a bride or a groom — their dreams got wings as they discovered the magic to turn their weddings memorably wow!

That magic will be back at Wedding Diaries 2019 presented by The India Story at Raajkutir in Swabhumi on 31st August and 1st September, 11am to 9pm. An initiative of the Neotia Arts Trust, Wedding Diaries is a culmination of everything and everyone that makes a dream wedding happen.

In its second year, Wedding Diaries will showcase some of the top designers for the first time in Calcutta. The best of names including Kalyani Chawla, Umang Hutheesing, Suneet Varma, Malini Ramani, Sanjay Garg, Raj Mahtani and Anu Kaushik will be available to help you get ready for the big day.

A curated ensemble of traditional and contemporary clothing as well as accessories is surely be the draw. Age is no bar at Wedding Diaries nor the pocket or the taste. The show is designed keeping in mind the variety of age, taste and preferences that any Indian wedding brings together — brides, grooms, their families and friends all-inclusive.

Of course, the bride becomes the cynosure of all eyes at a wedding ceremony. No worries for the special girl as Wedding Diaries promises to be a one-stop solution for all bridal needs and have celebrity stylists, make-up and skin specialists and even a cosmetic dentist on board!

You don’t need to be a bride or groom to enjoy all the indulgences that come along with weddings. Fashion brands will flaunt their festive and resort-wear collections, menswear and quirky accessories like bags, footwear and destination jewellery too!

And when the show is about the biggest celebration in your life, can it be without its own share of fun and frolic? Expect live performances lined up to get you in the mood, a high-tea and dinner (both by invitation only) and a plethora of surprises in store for all visitors including fashion walks and complimentary styling/beauty consultation services. Look out for the lucky draw, where one couple will win business class tickets to an Etihad destination of their choice!

After all, a wedding is the celebration of a bond not only between two individuals but also between two families and their friends and well-wishers. It is one of the most precious and sacred events of a lifetime. And for that, why compromise? See you at Wedding Diaries on August 31 and September 1 at Swabhumi. Cheers!
